How to Travel to Togo, Africa

The only international airport in Togo is in the capital city of Lome. No direct flights exist from the United States to the airport in Lome, but plenty of connecting flights are available on several U.S. airlines. Most flights will consist of at least two transfers, possibly more. Travel time, with layovers, can exceed 24 hours. You must have the necessary paperwork in order to gain entry into Togo.

Instructions

    • 1

Get vaccinated for yellow fever. This vaccination is required before you can obtain the visa for entry to Togo. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website (see References) provides a comprehensive list of approved vaccination clinics throughout the country. Keep the vaccination certificate that the clinic gives you.

Book a round trip flight. Do this before you apply for your visa, as your itinerary will be necessary for visa approval. You can easily book your flight online through travel sites such as Dohop (see References).

    • 3

To get a visa, send your passport, flight itinerary, three passport photos, yellow fever vaccination certification and the necessary fees to:

      VisaHQ.com

      Embassy Row

      2005 Massachusetts Ave. NW

      Washington, DC 20036

Do this a minimum of 10 days before your flight date to allow for the five day processing time and any potential delays.

Carry a copy of your vaccination records and passport with you at all times while in Togo, as suggested by the U.S. Department of State, as officials may ask for these documents at any time during your stay.
