Who runs eritrea?
Eritrea is an east African country led by President Isaias Afwerki. He has been in power since 1991, making him one of the longest-serving presidents in the world. Afwerki was born in 1946 and joined the Eritrean Liberation Front (ELF) in 1965. He later co-founded the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) with fellow liberation fighter Habte Selassie in 1970. Afwerki led the EPLF to victory in overthrowing the Ethiopian Derg in 1991. Following independence, Afwerki became the first President of Eritrea and has maintained a strong grip on power in the country ever since.
