Why kosovo join UN?

There are multiple reasons why Kosovo sought to join the UN:

1. International Recognition: Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008. However, not all countries recognized Kosovo as an independent state. Joining the UN would have provided international recognition and legitimacy to Kosovo's sovereignty and statehood.

2. Strengthening Sovereignty: Membership in the UN would have further solidified Kosovo's sovereignty and enhanced its ability to act independently on the international stage. It would have enabled Kosovo to participate in decision-making processes and contribute to global governance and cooperation.

3. Access to International Organizations and Funding: As a UN member state, Kosovo would have gained access to various international organizations and multilateral institutions, such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. This would have opened opportunities for financial assistance, economic development, and technical expertise.

4. Increased Diplomatic Engagement: Joining the UN would have allowed Kosovo to engage in direct diplomatic relations with other member states and participate in international forums, conferences, and negotiations. It would have strengthened Kosovo's diplomatic presence and influence in global affairs.

5. Security and Stability: UN membership could have contributed to Kosovo's security and stability by enhancing its ability to address challenges such as regional conflicts, border disputes, and potential threats to its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

6. Enhancing Human Rights and Democracy: Kosovo could have promoted its commitment to human rights, democratic principles, and the rule of law by joining the UN. UN membership would have subjected Kosovo to international scrutiny and encouraged adherence to international standards and norms.

7. Building International Partnerships: Kosovo saw UN membership as an opportunity to build stronger relationships and partnerships with other countries, foster international cooperation, and advance its foreign policy objectives.

However, it's important to note that Kosovo's application for UN membership faced significant opposition, particularly from Serbia and its allies, who considered Kosovo's declaration of independence a violation of international law. As of now, Kosovo remains a partially recognized state and is not a member of the UN.
