First Japanese Immigrant to Texas

Documented Japanese immigration to Texas began late in the 19th century. The first known Japanese settler was Isami Kondo, who arrived in 1898 and settled in Austin. Significant Japanese communities developed later, particularly in the Gulf Coast rice-farming areas and in cities like Houston and San Antonio during the 20th century.
