During the hot summer months, people throughout the world seek water parks to cool down. In colder climates of the world, such as Canada, indoor swimming facilities are available. Many water parks are connected to resorts or shopping centers, including Atlantis Aquaventure in the Bahamas and Edmonton's World Waterpark. According to various publications -- Forbes, Travel+Leisure and the New York Times -- some international water parks stand apart from the rest.

    • The World Waterpark is in the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Ontario, Canada. It is the largest indoor water park in the world with an area of over 6 million square feet. This 5-acre park features 17 water slides, the Blue Thunder wave pool and the world's tallest indoor, permanent bungee-jump tower. Concessions are available at the Beachview Bar.

    Discovery Cove

    • According to Forbes magazine, Discovery Cove is one of the top amusement parks in the world. This uspcale water park is in Orlando, Florida, and allows guests to have close encounters with dolphins. Snorkeling in coral reefs with stingrays is also available. The park only permits 1,000 people at at time.

    Everland

    • Everland was built in 1976, making it South Korea's first theme park.     Schlitterbahn Galveston

    • The Schlitterbahn water park in Galveston, Texas, is the one of the best water parks in the world, according to the Travel Channel. This German-themed indoor water park features the Blastenhoff area's 81-foot water slide and Surfenburg' wave pool. The park is family-owned and operated. The Wasserfest area has two twisting-tube slides.

    Atlantis Aquaventure

    • The Atlantis Resort's Aquaventure Waterpark in Nassau, Bahamas, is a "can't miss" Caribbean attraction, according to Travel+Leisure magazine. This 141-acre water park has a mile-long river rapids ride, 11 swimming pools and water slides from Atlantean-themed towers. Rock climbing activities are available at the water park.

    Wet 'n Wild Water World

    • Featured in Fodor's, Wet 'n Wild Water World in Queensland, Australia, offers thrill rides in the park's Extreme H20 area, such as the vortex-style Black Hole and the Mach Five speed slide. This park also offers chances for relaxation at the sandy Calypso Beach area, which also features a lazy river ride. The childrens' playground area, Buccaneer Bay, has a multi-level treehouse structure.

    Legoland California

    • Legoland California's water park is in Carlsbad, California, a suburb of the Greater San Diego area, and is a five-and-a-half-acre section of the park. The water park was featured in the Los Angeles Times and includes a lazy river ride with Lego brick-style inner tubes and a sandy beach wave pool. The park also has 20 life-size Lego figures that squirt people with water.

    Siam Waterpark

    • The Siam Waterpark on Spain's Tenerife island is one of the largest water parks in Europe, according to the London Times, and has Thai-themed décor and water rides. The water rides include a vertical-drop water slide called the Dragon, as well as the Volcano vortex-style slide. A large wave pool offers sandy beaches and nine-foot high waves for surfing activities.

    Sea Adventure Resort and Waterpark

    • The Sea Adventure Waterpark in Cancun, Mexico, was given an Environmental Quality Recognition award from the Mexico Federal Environment Protection Office in 2010.
