Waterparks have increased in popularity since the 1940s and feature water slides, "lazy rivers," kids playgrounds and other opportunities for water fun. According to the World Waterpark Association, attendance in the 2006 summer season was estimated at 78 million, but that amount covers the United States, Canada and Mexico. The attendance growth of waterparks averages 3 to 5 percent per year.   1. Walt Disney Waterpark

    • Walt Disney World offers two waterparks in Florida, which include Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Typhoon Lagoon offers a children's water area with small rafts and waterslides. Visitors also have an opportunity to enjoy the 6-foot surf pool or snorkel with tropical fish, bonnethead sharks and tropical fish in the coral reef. All equipment is provided at no charge, but children under the age of 10 need a parent or guardian to accompany them. The waterpark consists of nine slides, some with almost complete vertical drops. It also offers restaurants, an outdoor bar and two picnic areas.

      Blizzard Beach has a snow-castle fountain, free-falling slides and even the world's largest water slide. Based on the attendance report in 2007, attendance for the two parks was approximated at 4 million.

    Wet'n Wild

    • Wet'n Wild water park has two locations, one in Orlando Florida as part of Universal Studios and the second in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Orlando location includes more than 30 acres of slides and other water fun. It provides thrill rides with vertical drops, slides and other attractions. Wet'n Wild also has multi-person rides, such as large rafts perfect for groups of families or friends, and a kids park.

      The North Carolina location provides rides and slides, such as Splash Island, Leisure Lagoon, Shipwreck Cove, Dragon's Den and other rides. The park also has special event days, such as Girl Scout day, Boy Scout day, a Christian youth day, and polar plunge.
