    The Coastal Classic

    • For nature lovers who wish to view the wildlife of the Alaskan frontier, this Alaskan Railroad train is an excellent route. Complete with guided tours and stops at popular landmarks, the train embarks from Seward and stops in Anchorage on a 4 1/2-hour journey. The Coastal Classic winds through the Sitka Spruce Forest, crosses the Snowy River, then passes by Kenai Lake on its way to Moose Pass.

      When the train leaves the forest, glaciers and glacial lakes come into view. Admire Bartlett Glacier before stopping at the Girdwood Ski resort.     Ethan Allen Express

    • Board the Ethan Allen Express in the fall and see the best of Upstate New York when leaves are most colorful. Owned by Amtrak, this train takes passengers on a 5 1/2-hour trip from New York City to Rutland, Vermont. Travel through the Catskills in New York, pass by the Green Mountains in Vermont and stop in Albany, New York, for hiking, biking and boating opportunities. The route also passes by the Saratoga Springs racetrack, the Adirondack Mountains and the Hudson River Valley. Train-goers may reserve business class or coach class seating, and all passengers have access to the snack car.
