With special events such as wine or beer tasting rides and Christmastime Polar Express, the Georgetown Loop Railroad is fun for all ages. The train leaves from Silver Plume Depot or Devil's Gate Station and winds its way past abandoned gold and silver mines to Clear Creek Canyon. Gift shops at both ends of the line offer plenty of shopping opportunities. Mine tours are also available. As of October 2010, basic prices start at $22.50 for adults over 15 and $16.50 for children ages 3 and up.

If a short trip with the kids is more to your liking, consider a ride on the Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad. Trains depart every 40 minutes from the historic train depot in Cripple Creek, and the ride lasts about 45 minutes with brief stops at scenic sites and Echo Canyon. There is also a gift shop at the depot. As of October 2010, ticket prices start at $12.25 for adults, $7.75 for children ages 3 to 12 and $11.25 for seniors over 65. AAA members and active military personnel get $1 off admission.

For the train enthusiast who likes high altitude and is willing to travel 77 miles outside of Denver, a ride on the Pike's Peak Cog Railway is the perfect day trip. From the depot at the base of Pike's Peak, travelers will ride up the mountain, seeing Minnehaha Falls and Hell Gate before arriving at the top of Pike's Peak. No matter what season it is, the view is spectacular. As of October 2010, tickets are $33.00 for adults and $18.00 for children age 3 through 12.
