The Arkansas Missouri Railroad provides both passenger and freight service and touts itself as a "window seat to history." The railroad travels on tracks laid in the 1880s, which traverse a 139-mile course originating in Monnett, Mo., through Fort Smith, Ark. Arkansas Missouri Railroad passengers ride comfortably in refurbished antique passenger or parlor coaches, and can enjoy snacks and beverages along the ride. As of November 2010, a trip on the Arkansas Missouri Railroad runs between $20 and $82, depending on the passenger's destination, age and seating preference.
The Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway touts itself as one of the largest excursion railways in the Ozarks. The railway recreates the turn-of-the-century railroad experience for travelers with a 4.5-mile ride through the mountains. As of November 2010, trip rates range between $6.50 and $13, and children under 4 travel for free. The ES&NA also has a dining car that departs on evenings. The ES&NA depot features a gift shop, historical exhibits and snack bar.
Amtrak's Texas Eagle Network runs 1,308 miles between Chicago and Los Angeles, providing direct service to 41 cities. Along the way, the Texas Eagle has stops in five Arkansas cities, as of November 2010. The Texas Eagle has sleeper coaches, a dining car and passenger lounge. The train's Superliner cars are two levels, and the crew includes sleeping car, dining car and lounge car attendants on hand to cater to passengers' needs.
