Hannibal, Missouri is known as the hometown of Samuel L. Clemens, more popularly known as Mark Twain. As his writings were mostly inspired by his experiences in Hannibal, his stories come alive upon visiting the banks of the Mississippi River, his boyhood home, the museums dedicated in his honor and many other attractions. The city is setting of his books "Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." Many of the historical sites around the area relate to the places depicted in his stories and books.
