Railroad Trips in Canada

Canada is the second-largest country in the world, and traveling by train is one of the best ways to experience the vastness of the country's natural beauty. Rail routes in Canada cut through mountain ranges, forests, prairie and sub-arctic terrain. The train is a relaxing, romantic alternative to standard airplane and car trips.
  1. The Canadian and The Ocean

    • Via Rail Canada operates Canada's national passenger rail service and offers two long-haul train journeys that between them cross most of the country. The Canadian, which runs between Toronto and Vancouver, is a three-day trip that goes through Ontario past the Great Lakes, across the Prairies and Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. You can travel in a seat in economy class, a seat/berth combination or a private sleeper cabin for between one and four people. Passengers in berths or cabins also have all of their meals included in the price of their ticket. The Canadian leaves from Toronto on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and from Vancouver on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The Ocean is an overnight trip from Montreal to Halifax. The train travels along the St. Lawrence River through Quebec before crossing the provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. You can book a seat, a seat with a berth or a cabin for one to four people. Passengers in cabins can choose to have meals included in their ticket price. Trains depart from Montreal and Halifax every day except Tuesdays.
