Waterparks in Malta

Malta is a small island lying in the Mediterranean Sea, just south of Sicily. Throughout the summer months, the weather can peak to 32 degrees F. It is a country with hundreds of attractions, hence the large influx of tourism. There are beaches, temples and museums, to name a few of the many attractions the country has to offer. Malta is also host to two water parks.
  1. Popeye Village

    • Popeye Village is based at Anchor Bay on the northwest coast of Malta. It is about a 10 minute drive from the nearest town, Mellieha. The water park originated from the 1980 musical "Popeye," starring Robin Williams, which was filmed at Anchor Bay. Because of its immediate popularity in connection with the film, it has been converted into a water park for children and adults alike. There are attractions such as boat rides, water trampolines, a beach area, pools and a small fun park for children. The water park also offers entertainment solely for adults by organizing social catering events, or team building days. Popeye Village is clearly diverse in the packages it has to offer. In reference to the official website, the attraction offers deals year-around due to the number of activities available to all. They do vary, but as of June 2010, no package exceeds $31 per adult.

    Splash and Fun Park

    • Splash and Fun Park can be found on the east coast of Malta. It is a short drive from the towns of Pembroke and Ghargur. It is considered the major water park attraction on the island and certainly lives up to expectations. There is ample to do, from the High-Tide Wave Pool, Children's Splash Land, Lazy River to the choice of three slides for all the family. Prices, as from August 2010, are competitive, with adults costing $22 and children and senior citizens for just $12 for a full day at the attraction. There are also full-service snack bars, an ice-cream parlor and a coffee bar. Splash and Fun Park certainly caters for all ages with its array of activities throughout the park.

    Comparisons and Differences

    • Although both these attractions are water-based parks, Popeye Village is definitely more of a "chill-out" attraction as it is more child oriented and doesn't have the thrill-seeking slides of Splash and Fun Park. If you are looking for a day out with a group of friends, it is recommended you head for Splash and Fun Park for the High-Tide Wave Pool and slides, and if it is a family trip where you may wish to relax but know your children can entertain themselves and be entertained by trained staff, head for Popeye Village.
