Myanmar's Leadership: Min Aung Hlaing and the Military Junta

Since the February 2021 military coup, Myanmar has been led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who serves as Chairman of the State Administration Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He ousted the democratically elected government of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint, triggering widespread domestic resistance and international condemnation. The United Nations and numerous countries have called for the restoration of democratic rule, the release of political prisoners, and an end to violence. Min Aung Hlaing's leadership remains unrecognized by many governments, and the country faces ongoing conflict, humanitarian crisis, and economic collapse under military rule.
