The ancient land of Madyan (Midian) corresponds to the northwestern coast of modern Saudi Arabia, along the eastern shore of the Gulf of Aqaba (Red Sea), roughly opposite Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
Surveys reveal Nabataean/Roman-era towns, rock-cut tombs, ancient wells, and copper-smelting slag—consistent with Midian’s role in incense and metal trade. The Hejaz Railway (1908) later passed through the region.
The area around Tabuk and Al-Badʿ is accessible via Highway 15. Key sites: Jethro’s Cave (Magha’ir Shu‘ayb), Magna ruins, Wadi Tayyib al-Ism (scenic canyon). Saudi Vision 2030 heritage projects are developing interpretive centers.
