Indonesian Pronoun "In": The Second-Person Singular

In Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), "in" is not a standard pronoun. The correct second-person singular pronouns are:

  • Kamu — Informal, familiar (friends, peers, younger people)
  • Anda — Formal, polite (strangers, elders, professional, written)
  • Kalian — Plural "you all" (informal)
  • Anda sekalian / Bapak/Ibu sekalian — Plural formal

"In" may appear in:

  • Dialects/Regional varieties: Some local languages (e.g., Javanese, Sundanese, Batak) have distinct pronouns; code-switching occurs.
  • Typo/OCR error: For "ini" (this/that), "kamu" (misread), or "Anda" (misread).
  • Slang/Internet shorthand: Rare, non-standard.

Standard Indonesian uses kamu (informal) and Anda (formal) for singular "you." "In" is not a recognized form in the official language (KBBI).
