Shanghai to Suzhou: 65 Miles by Road, 72 Miles by Rail

Suzhou lies just west of Shanghai in the Yangtze River Delta. Distances:

• By Road: ~105 km (65 mi) via G2 (Beijing–Shanghai Expressway) or S32; 1.5–2 hours depending on traffic.
• By High-Speed Rail: ~115 km (72 mi) from Shanghai Hongqiao to Suzhou North or Suzhou Station; 25–30 minutes on 350 km/h CRH trains (frequent departures).
• By Air: No direct flights. Nearest airport to Suzhou is Sunan Shuofang (WUX), ~65 km (40 mi) from city center; fly Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) → WUX (40 min) + transfer—not practical.

Best option: High-speed train—fast, frequent, city-center to city-center. Car only if you need flexibility for peripheral sites.
