Is Pakistan a third world country?
Pakistan's economy meets several characteristics typically associated with "third world" economies, such as a reliance on agriculture and low HDI ranking (0.509). Despite recent economic growth, 1/3 of its population still lived below the poverty line as of 2015-2016 Pakistan faces many economic, societal, environmental, legal, and developmental struggles despite efforts made to achieve first world rankings (i.e. HDI score above .8)
However many would disagree with the "third world" being an apt and modern way to categorise countries (the term emerged during the "first world vs. second world" dichotomy after WWII; "third world" referred to all other non-aligned nations.)
