How long did it take the 2004 tsunami to reach Indonesia?
The 2004 tsunami, also known as the Indian Ocean tsunami, reached Indonesia approximately two hours after the initial earthquake. The epicentre of the earthquake was located off the west coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia, and the resulting tsunami waves travelled across the Indian Ocean at speeds of up to 600 miles per hour. The waves struck the Indonesian coastlines along Sumatra and Aceh with devastating impact.
