The airport is the closest international airport to Kyoto and Osaka in the Kansai region, according to TravelSmart. Kansai Airport also services Kobe, the capital of Hyogo Prefecture. More than 50 airlines use the airport.
As an international airport, It has amenities for foreign visitors like foreign exchange facilities, retail shops and restaurants, a business center, and a tourist information center. There is an easy train and bus service available to nearby cities.
The airport added a second runway in 2007 as part of its ongoing expansion and the airport was projected to handle 230,000 flights a year by 2011, according to Airport-Technology. It expanded facilities for passengers as well as cargo.
