How do I Go to Zhuhai?

According to the government of Zhuhai's website, Zhuhai is one of the world's most romantic cities. Situated upon 146 islands, Zhuhai is one of China's special economic zones in the Guangdong Province. Zhuhai, which is nicknamed "the city for lovers" and "the city of a hundred islands," is known for its long coastline and low population density. Because of its close proximity to Hong Kong and Macau, Zhuhai is a popular destination for Chinese and foreign tourists. Getting there from either location is easy.

Instructions

  1. From Hong Kong

    • 1

Take the Airport Express from Hong Kong International Airport to Kowloon Station. Once there, get on the free Airport Express transit bus K2 to the China Hong Kong Ferry Terminal. At the ferry terminal, you can catch ferries to Zhuhai all day and there is no need to purchase advance tickets for any of these trips. The entire journey takes approximately 50 minutes.

    • 2

Take the overland bus to Gongbei (a town in Zhuhai) if you are prone to get sea sick. This bus leaves from Hong Kong International Airport five times per day and takes about three-and-a-half hours.

    • 3

Go through immigration once you reach the entrance to Zhuhai. At the immigration building, follow the line that reads "Foreigner." Fill out a health form, produce your valid visa and walk through the duty-free area. Before you get to the Chinese immigration desk, you must fill out the same health form a second time as well as a blue slip indicating your intended place of residence in China and your departure details. Fill out the forms before you get in line.

    From Macau

    • 4

Take a taxi from the Macau International Airport. This is a short, 15-minute ride and is reasonably priced for groups of travelers.

    • 5

Take one of the several bus services from Macau International Airport to the Gongbei border crossing into Zhuhai if you want to save a little bit of money. Private bus services leave all day from the airport to the border and the trip takes about 25 minutes.

    • 6

Walk across the Lotus Bridge in Macau's Cotai area to the island of Hengqin and catch an air- conditioned shuttle bus to Xiangzhou, Wanzai or Gongbei if you want to cross the border at a smaller, less-chaotic immigration hall.

    • 7

Go through Chinese customs and immigration as directed above.
