The Karakum is closely related to other Central Asian deserts, namely the Kyzylkum and Taklamakan Deserts. These deserts share similar climatic and geographic characteristics, including a continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold, relatively dry winters, as well as sparse vegetation and limited water resources. The deserts are also part of the broader Asian desert belt, which stretches from the Middle East to China and includes deserts such as the Gobi and Arabian Deserts.
