Brown County State Park in Indiana

Brown County State Park near Nashville, Ind., is the state's largest state park. Just one hour south of Indianapolis, the park has rolling hills, vistas and forests for camping, hiking and nature trails.
  1. Lodging

    • Rustic log cabins, and luxury ones featuring hot tubs and pool tables, are available at the park, which opened in 1929. Small, intimate inns as well as bed and breakfasts are also available around the Nashville area for those looking for alternatives to camping.

    Camping

    • The park includes several campgrounds ranging from primitive to more modern style campsites. Hundreds of campsites are available and many include water and electrical facilities. You can make reservations with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

    Summer Camp

    • Located in the hills next to Brown County State Park is Camp Palawopec, for boys and girls ages 8 to 15. The camp is a private summer camp with many outdoor activities including horseback riding and canoe trips.

    Trails

    • The park has more than 80 miles of trails, which pass through steep forests, a nature preserve and scenic vistas. Cycling and horseback-riding trails are also available.

    Picnics

    • Hesitation Park is a popular picnic destination in the center of the park. The large vista offers plenty of scenery in the fall.
