How many foreigners live in Japan?

According to the Ministry of Justice, as of June 2022, there were approximately 2.94 million foreign residents in Japan, accounting for about 2.3% of the total population. This includes both long-term residents (those who have lived in Japan for more than three months) and short-term residents (those who have lived in Japan for less than three months).
