Australia's Three Major Landform Regions: Western Plateau, Central Lowlands, Eastern Highlands

1. Western Plateau

Covers two-thirds of the continent. Ancient, flat, arid. Includes the Great Sandy Desert and Great Victoria Desert. Rich in minerals.

2. Central Lowlands

Between the plateau and the eastern highlands. Vast plains, grasslands, and deserts (e.g., Simpson Desert). Contains the Great Artesian Basin. Most agriculture and population centers (e.g., Sydney, Melbourne) lie on the eastern fringe.

3. Eastern Highlands

Also called the Great Dividing Range. Rugged mountains, deep valleys, high rainfall. Includes Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 m), Australia's highest peak. Forested slopes, alpine areas in the south.

These regions define Australia's climate, settlement, and resource distribution.
