Australian Marsupials with Pouches: 12 Iconic Species

All female marsupials have a pouch (marsupium) for joey development. Iconic Australian examples:

• Koala
• Kangaroos (Red, Eastern/Western Grey)
• Wallabies (Swamp, Rock, Agile, etc.)
• Wombats (Common, Hairy-nosed)
• Tasmanian Devil
• Bilby (Greater)
• Numbat
• Bandicoots (Long-nosed, Southern Brown)
• Sugar Glider
• Possums (Brushtail, Ringtail, Pygmy)
• Quolls (Spotted-tailed, Eastern, Western, Northern)

Note: Kookaburras are kingfishers (birds)—they do not have pouches. The list above corrects that error.
