Did the British Empire own whole of Australia?

The British Empire did not own the whole of Australia. The British Empire claimed the eastern part of Australia in 1788 and gradually expanded its control over the continent, but it did not formally annex Western Australia until 1829. The Northern Territory was also not formally annexed until 1863. So, while the British Empire did eventually control the whole of Australia, it did not own it all at the same time.
