Why did they it called Victoria falls?

David Livingstone, a Scottish explorer, is credited with giving Victoria Falls its English name in honor of Queen Victoria in 1855. Livingstone was the first European to see the falls from the European side in 1855, although the falls were known to the local Kololo and Lozi people as "Mosi-oa-Tunya" (The Smoke that Thunders).
