Some deciduous trees, such as aspen and birch, are also found here. The ground is covered with a variety of mosses, lichens, and flowering plants.
2. The Aspen Parkland: This zone lies between the Boreal Forest and the Prairie Grasslands and is characterized by a mix of aspen forests and grasslands. The aspen forests are often interspersed with meadows and marshy areas. The grasslands are covered with a variety of grasses and wildflowers, including fescue, needlegrass, and asters.
3. The Prairie Grasslands: This zone covers the southern part of the province and is characterized by vast stretches of grasslands. The grasses here are mainly short and medium-height, such as blue grama, buffalo grass, and wheatgrass. Some forbs, such as aster, goldenrod, and sunflower, are also found here.
