How did Canada bay get its name?

There are two main theories about how Canada Bay in Australia got its name.

1. The first theory suggests that the bay was named after the Canadian warship HMS Canada, which visited Sydney in 1829. The ship's captain, John Hayes, was impressed with the beauty of the bay and suggested that it be named after his ship.

2. The second theory suggests that the bay was named after the Canadian timber trade, which was flourishing at the time. In the early 19th century, Canada was a major source of timber for Sydney and other Australian cities. It is possible that the bay was named after the timber ships that brought Canadian wood to Sydney.

The exact origin of the name "Canada Bay" is still unknown, but both of these theories are plausible explanations.
