Toronto to Negril, Jamaica: Time Zone Difference Explained

The time difference between Toronto (Eastern Time, ET) and Negril, Jamaica (Eastern Standard Time, EST year-round) varies seasonally because Jamaica does not observe Daylight Saving Time while Toronto does.

The Difference

Key Dates (2024 Example)

• March 10, 2024: Toronto springs forward → Toronto 1 hour ahead
• November 3, 2024: Toronto falls back → Same time

Practical Implications

• Flights: 4h 15m direct; departure/arrival times reflect local zones
• Calls/meetings: Summer: 9 AM Toronto = 8 AM Negril; Winter: 9 AM = 9 AM
• Financial markets: Toronto follows NY (EDT/EST); Jamaica follows EST always

Common Confusion

Many sources incorrectly state Toronto is "behind" Jamaica. During DST (March-November), Toronto is AHEAD by 1 hour. Only during standard time (November-March) are they aligned.

Always verify current offsets when scheduling—Jamaica's permanent EST is the anchor; Toronto moves around it.
