Where Do Siberian Tigers Live? Habitat and Population

The Siberian tiger—also known as the Amur tiger—primarily inhabits the forests of the Russian Far East, with the Sikhote-Alin mountain range serving as its core stronghold. This vast, rugged wilderness harbors approximately 95% of the world's remaining wild Siberian tiger population.

Small, fragmented populations also persist in northeastern China and possibly North Korea, though these groups are critically endangered. Conservation efforts across international borders aim to protect habitat corridors and combat poaching to ensure the survival of this magnificent apex predator.

The Sikhote-Alin range's mix of temperate broadleaf and mixed forests provides ideal territory for these massive cats, which require extensive ranges for hunting prey such as wild boar, deer, and elk.
