How is a prime minister chosen in Trinidad and tobago?

The prime minister of Trinidad & Tobago is the head of government for the island nation. The position of prime minister is appointed by the President to the member of the House of Representatives who in the judgement of the President, is best able to command the support of the majority of members of the House of Representatives. The Prime Minister is then sworn into office by the President.

In essence, the Prime Minister is the leader of the political party that has obtained the most seats in the House of Representatives in a general election. This is because, according to the Constitution, the President is required to appoint as Prime Minister the person who appears to him or her to be most likely to command the support of the majority of members of the House of Representatives.
