The Searchmont Resort is about 24 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie. The resort features a 750-foot vertical drop, as well as a freestyle terrain park. Located on the outskirts of Sault Ste. Marie, the Hiawatha Highlands has 25 miles of Nordic skiing trails designed for both advanced and beginning skiers. A four-mile track for snowshoers is also available. Although Hiawatha Highlands does not have lodging, many skiers choose to stay in one of the nearby Sault Ste. Marie hotels or select a vacation package with accommodations at nearby Stokely Creek Lodge.
