How old is Toronto?

The City of Toronto as a municipality was incorporated in 1834. However, the history of the city dates back to the 18th century when the French established a trading post at Fort Rouillé in 1750. The British captured Fort Rouillé in 1759 and renamed it Fort York. The town that grew up around Fort York was called York until it was renamed Toronto in 1834. Therefore, the City of Toronto as we know it today is 188 years old.
