Markham, Ontario is a city in the Greater Toronto Area of Canada. This rapidly growing city houses an increasingly multicultural population. As a result, there are many different restaurants to match anyone's taste and budget.
  1. Types of Restaurant

    • As with any medium-sized city, you could find any style of food. According to the Markham Restaurant Guide, the majority of restaurants are Italian and Chinese. There are also well-rated Japanese restaurants, but not as many. It may be more difficult to locate these restaurants unless you are familiar with the city.

    Thornhill

    • Thornhill is an ethnically diverse area partly within Markham, but also within the city of Vaughn. This area is home to Jewish, Eastern European and Italian communities. The diversity of the area creates opportunities to sample food from a variety of cultures.

    Main Street Markham

    • To find unique restaurants that are locally owned, Main Street is the place to go. This historical area contains Italian and Canadian restaurants situated in old, redeveloped buildings. According to the Markham Economist and Sun, Main Street is home to the city's best pub, best bakery, best Japanese restaurant (Tsukiji Sushi) and best Italian (Al Dente Restaurant) restaurant. The Olde Curiousity Tea Shop is in a historic building and servers wear period costumes.
