Situated within a restored grain elevator, and a feed store built in 1908, the Old Elevator Restaurant and Wine bar is located in downtown Fernie's historic district. The main dining room has been elegantly appointed, and the extensive wine list has earned the restaurant the "Wine Spectator's" Restaurant Award of Excellence for five consecutive years. Couples may want to book one of the restaurant's two private dining rooms, or relax in front of the fireplace in the Old Elevator's lounge.
The Lizard Creek Lodge located within a ski resort just a few minutes drive from Fernie, offers a fine-dining experience in a rustic and romantic setting. Couples may want to start off with with a drink in the lounge while snuggling up in one of the plush couches situated in front of the cozy stonework fireplace. Although open prior to ski season, the restaurant is closed during the late spring and summer months.
The Island Lake Lodge specializes in snow-cat skiing. Experienced skiers explore pristine back-country terrain accessed by a vehicle called a snow cat, which holds as many as 12 people. Afterward, couples can enjoy a meal in the lodge's restaurant, featuring French-inspired fine dining. Within this luxurious setting, couples can toast each other with a glass of wine from the extensive and eclectic "wine library." The menu changes daily, with an emphasis on local organic products.
Housed within the Fernie Stanford Resort, the Fernie Mountain Tandoor Restaurant offers a reasonably priced, high-quality menu and spectacular mountain views from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The casual-but-cozy atmosphere is ideal for a romantic evening. The restaurant can be busy during peak ski season, so call ahead. In addition to authentic East Indian cuisine, the restaurant also offers a number of more-traditional Western-style offerings.
