George Vancouver was a British naval officer and explorer whose expedition explored the west coast of North America, including present-day Canada and the United States, including: * British Columbia * Washington * Oregon * Alaska Vancouver explored many waterways and named numerous geographic features including Puget Sound, the Gulf of Georgia, Queen Charlotte Sound, King George Sound, Juan de Fuca Strait, the Olympic Mountains, Mount Rainier, Cape Flattery, and Admiralty Island among others. Vancouver also played a role in settling the boundary between Spanish California and Russian Alaska.
