Does Nova Scotia have a nickname and if so where did it come from?

Nova Scotia does have a nickname, it is "Bluenose". The nickname is thought to have originated from the fact that Nova Scotians have blue noses from the cold ocean air. The term was first used in 1786, and became popular in the mid-19th century. Another theory suggests that Nova Scotia gained the nickname because it was the farthest North that many seagoing vessels would go without needing to take on water.
