The mountains close for skiing in May only to reopen for summer hiking or mountain biking. There are more than 20 hiking trails and 50 biking trails, and the two mountains are joined by the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. Before you set out, check which trails are open that day.
Nearby Lost Lake is a popular summer getaway, all within a walk or bike ride from Whistler Upper Village. Picnic, swim, canoe, bike or walk around the lake. If Lost Lake is too crowded, drive to nearby Alta or Nita lakes.
River rafting trips are available, departing five times a day from the Whistler Resort Village Base. Spend a few hours or a whole day rafting one of three local rivers. There is a fee for rafting tours.
Three guided tours a day are available for a firsthand view of the surrounding environment, which includes black bears. There is a fee for these tours.
Keep in mind this is an alpine climate; the days get warm in the summer but can still get cool at night. Hiking and biking trails can be muddy, especially in early summer. The glaciers are always snow-capped.
