Lakes That Don't Allow Motor Boats in Ontario

Travelers without motorboats can get distracted by the noise that these devices make, but there are lakes in Ontario that do not allow motorboats. These lakes tend to be smaller, but still have nearby amenities like campgrounds and hiking trails. Families with small children will enjoy these quieter lakes, and generally visitors can do activities like canoeing or swimming on these lakes as well.

    • Chalk Lake is a small lake located near Crow's Pass Conservation area, and this area attracts local animals and bird species. The lake is clean, and visitors can even go canoeing, kayaking and swimming. Many people own homes or cottages along the shores, but it is not a private lake. The area is heavily wooded, and marshes line the shore. Visitors should visit this lake during the summer for recreational activities, or the fall to catch the changing leaves.     Jay Lake

    • Jay Lake is located at 49 latitude and -90 longitude, and the nearest city to it is Thunder Bay, which is approximately 50 miles away. Nearby attractions include Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park, Dorset Tower and Ouimet Canyon Provincial Nature Reserve. Hiking trails are located near the lake, and the towns of Minden and Haliburton offer visitors shopping, galleries and dining. Lake activities include swimming and non-motor boating like kayaking and canoeing. The area is heavily wooded, and the lake is narrow in certain spots.     Canisbay Lake

    • Canisbay Lake is located within Algonquin Provincial Park, which is one of the oldest parks within the province of Ontario. Camping, canoeing, swimming and kayaking are allowed on the lake. Other activities include hiking amongst forests, near rivers and near cliff faces. Animals in the area include moose, beaver and a number of bird species. The lake is heavily wooded and wide in its expanse. There are also beaches along the shoreline, and areas along the shoreline are shallow. Visitors can canoe or kayak to mini-islands in the lake. Summer and fall are popular times of year to visit.
