Spring Festivals in Montreal & Quebec City

Quebec is the largest province in Canada and is located in the eastern region of the country. This province is home to two of Canada's largest cities, Montreal and Quebec City. Both of these cities have rich histories and cultures, with strong European influences as made evident by their French-speaking people.
  1. Manif d'Art

    • Manif d'Art is an event focusing on bringing contemporary art to the public. The festival is run by the Québec group "Manifestation Internationale d'Art" and features close to one hundred artists from throughout Canada and around the world. The festival is held once every 2 years.

      In addition to art exhibitions, workshops and activities intended to increase art awareness are offered. These activities include guided art tours available in multiple languages, projects for youth and beginner art classes.

    Carrefour International de Théâtre

    • The Carrefour International de Théâtre is a theater showcase festival held every spring in Québec City. Theater troupes from all around Canada and the world attend the festival and present their shows to the public audience. In addition to presenting their plays, theater members are able to interact and share ideas for upcoming projects.

      Some of the highlights of the Carrefour International de Théâtre festival include a performance of Shakespeare's works, such as "Julius Caesar" and "Antony and Cleopatra." A more modern collection of plays, entitled "Blood Promises," is also presented.

    Festival TransAmériques

    • The Festival TransAmériques is a festival celebrating theater and dance in Montréal, and brings acts from the province of Quebec, all of Canada and beyond. The festival is designed to expose audiences to wide range of artistic performances with works from various writers, directors, and dance choreographers.

      Workshops are offered during the festival, connecting audience members with the trades of artists and providing arts education. Several organized round table discussions meant to share and debate ideas are held. Common contributors to the dance arts at Festival TransAmériques include renowned directors Wajdi Mouawad and Merce Cunningham of Canada.

    Festival International du Film

    • The Festival International du Film in Montréal is a large film festival focused on family-friendly and children's movies. Movie categories include comedy, drama and animation, and the festival draws entries from all around the world. Each film is entered into a competition and judged by both adults and children.

      In addition to the movie exhibitions, film education is offered in the form of workshops. These workshops show the audience what is involved in producing films, and allows them to ask questions directly to the producers. Autograph sections with producers and movie actors are also offered.
