Murcia lies in southeastern Spain, about 45 km (28 miles) inland from the Mediterranean Sea. It is the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Murcia, and Spain's seventh most populous city. The city sits on the Segura River, surrounded by mountains and hills, enjoying a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, humid winters.
