How deep is the tongan sea?

The Tongan Trench, located about 150 miles (240 km) east of the island of Tongatapu in the Kingdom of Tonga, is the deepest part of the Tongan Sea, with a maximum depth of 36,201 feet (11,033 meters). The Tongan Trench runs in a north-south direction and is about 100 miles (160 km) long and 40 miles (65 km) wide. It is the result of the collision of the Pacific and Indo-Australian tectonic plates, which has created a subduction zone where one plate is pushed beneath the other.
