If you've got kids and want to avoid crowds of surfers, head to Ten Bay beach, which is popular with visiting families and the occasional local fisherman. The beach is located at about the half way point on the island. Thanks to its nearby shallow waters, Ten Bay beach is one of the safer of Eleuthera's beaches for kids.
Eleuthera is known for its pineapple fields, and aptly enough, one of the best beaches from which to catch a good view of the island's sights is the Pineapple Fields beach. With a restaurant nearby, tourists can sit and gaze over the island's beauty.
For some dramatic views, take a trip to the south of the island where you'll find Lighthouse Beach, which handily also features pink sands, unspoilt by tourism.
Like to ride the waves? There are a few options on Eleuthera for you, like the James Cistern beach, for instance, which benefits from a southerly wind which on occasion helps the waves reach 10 feet tall.
Or you might try Surfer's Beach, where many wave-riders gather. This beach is close to Gregory's Town, toward the northern end of the island, and boasts warm waters and a local surfing expert who goes by the name of 'Surfer Pete'. Pete congratulates high-achieving fellow surfers by calling them 'righteous': quite the accolade.
Snorkel fans should visit James Cistern beach, where shipwrecks adorn the shallows. If the water isn't too choppy, the beach makes an ideal snorkelling spot. Alternatively, snorkelers might choose to head to the Twin Coves beaches, where offshore reefs present many options for a day's snorkelling. The Twin Coves beaches were also the filming location for the movie 'Three' starring actor Billy Zane.
To visit a beach renowned across the world and often featured in those lists of best beaches which crop up all over the place, take a water taxi from the Eleuthera mainland to Harbour Island. Here you'll find the Pink Sands beach---named after its famous sand, unsurprisingly---generally considered one of the best beaches the Bahamas can offer tourists.
