How many years did it take Christians to reconquer Spain?

It took Christians 781 years to reconquer Spain. The Battle of Guadalete in 711 signified the beginning of the Muslim conquest of Spain which led to the loss of Visigothic control over almost the entire Iberian Peninsula with the exception of a small kingdom, Asturias, in the north. These lands were gradually regained by Christian kingdoms in a process that lasted almost eight hundred years and led to the political unification of Spain in the 15th century.
