Are Papua New Guinea the same as Irian Jaya?

Papua New Guinea and Irian Jaya are not the same. Papua New Guinea is an independent country located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, while Irian Jaya is a province of Indonesia located on the island of New Guinea.
