Is french polynesia a continental island?
French Polynesia is not a continental fragment, but rather an overseas collectivity of France located in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is composed of 118 islands and atolls, spread over an exclusive economic zone of 5.5 million square kilometers. The islands are divided into five archipelagos: the Society Islands, the Tuamotus, the Marquesas, the Austral Islands, and the Gambier Islands. Most of the islands are of volcanic origin, but some are atolls formed by coral reefs.
