Why are there so few indigenous people in the Caribbean?
The indigenous peoples of the Caribbean were decimated by European diseases, warfare, genocide, and enslavement. This was most significant in the 16th century when the Spanish arrived. However, there are still indigenous people in the Caribbean today, including the Kalinago people in Dominica, the Garifuna people in Honduras, Belize, and Guatemala, and the Taíno people in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
