Is the Mojave Desert a low desert or high desert?

The Mojave Desert can be classified as both a high desert and a low desert. The eastern part of the Mojave is considered a low desert, but as one moves westward in elevation the desert begins to transition into a high desert. Overall, most of the Mojave Desert falls into the high desert category. The transition zone is known as the Mojave transition zone, and it is generally considered to be between 4,000 and 5,000 feet in elevation.
