Is Chile a member of the British Commonwealth?

Chile is not a member of the British Commonwealth. The British Commonwealth is an association of 54 independent and equal sovereign states that are for the most part former colonies of the British Empire. Chile, although a former colony of Spain, has never been a part of the British Empire and is therefore not a member of the British Commonwealth.
